Line Movement
How a betting line changes between opening and closing. The single most-watched signal in pro betting.
Line movement is the change in odds between when a market opens and when it closes. It’s the cleanest real-time signal of where smart money is flowing.
Typical scenarios:
- Line opens Packers -3, closes -4.5 → significant move toward the Packers
- Line opens Bears +3, closes +3 with 75% of tickets on the Packers → sharp money is on the dog (otherwise the line would have moved)
- Line moves opposite to ticket count → “reverse line movement,” classic sharp signal
Public bettors often chase line movement. Sharp bettors usually anticipate it.
