Vigorish (vs. Juice)

Also known as: vig

Older formal name for what most bettors now call "juice." Same concept; the sportsbook's commission baked into the price.

Vigorish is the original term for the sportsbook’s commission, derived from the Yiddish/Russian word for “winnings” or “profit.” Today most bettors shorten it to “vig” or use “juice” interchangeably.

All three words refer to the same thing: the cost baked into a betting line that gives the book its long-run edge.

See juice for the math.
