Against the Spread (ATS)

Also known as: ATS

A team's record relative to the point spread, not the actual win/loss record. The bettor's currency, not the standings'.

A team’s against the spread record measures how often it has covered the posted point spread. It’s different from the team’s straight-up win/loss record because spreads handicap the matchup.

Example: The Packers go 10-7 straight up but are 9-7-1 ATS; meaning they covered the spread nine times, failed seven times, and pushed once.

For bettors, ATS records are far more useful than win/loss records because they reflect how the team performs relative to market expectations.
