Action
A bet, or wagering activity in general. "I've got action on the Packers tonight" means you have a bet placed.
Action is the most generic word in sports betting vocabulary. It can mean (1) a single bet you’ve placed, (2) the total volume of bets on a market, or (3) the activity of betting at all.
Common uses:
- “I have action on the game” → I’ve placed a bet on it.
- “The book is taking heavy action on the favorite” → most of the money is on the favorite.
- “He bets every sport; he just likes the action” → he enjoys the activity itself.
Sportsbooks track action by side (which team is being bet) and by money (the dollar volume). A line will often move not because of new information but because of one-sided action.
